Food Preservation: Jams and Jellies

Food preservation classes will help consumers learn how to combat the threat of food-borne illness and preserve their harvest safely. The classes will provide step by step instructions on how to preserve using the most current researched recipes and procedures. They will also provide opportunities for hands-on learning. A current set of guides will be provided to each participant so they can follow along on their own at home after the class. The goal of this program is to provide participants with a solid foundation in home canning and preserving. Through hands-on classes participants learn how to make jellies/jams and salsas and learn proper pressure canning processes. Diabetes Self-Management (Session 10 of 12)

Description:

Diabetes Self-Management is a 6 week class for people living with type 2 Diabetes. This highly participatory class empowers participants to make changes and take steps to manage their condition through evidence-based practices. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, fatigue, pain, hyper/hypoglycemia, stress, and emotional problems such as depression, anger, fear and frustration; 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength and endurance; 3) healthy eating 4) appropriate use of medication; and 5) working more effectively with health care providers. Participants will make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program.

Cooking Matters for Adults in Pettis County (Session 2 of 6)

Cooking Matters is a hands-on cooking class where objectives focus on important aspects of selecting and preparing nutritious, safe, and low-cost foods. Participants will also learn how to eat healthier, cook healthier, read nutrition labels, and skills for smart grocery shopping on a budget. Participants get to take home free groceries to prepare a recipe a second time at their home.

Diabetes Self-Management Program - Clarity Healthcare June 2017 (Session 1 of 6)

Description:

This course is designed to help people who have diabetes or individuals who care for someone who has diabetes to become better self-managers of their condition. This program will consist of six sessions each lasting 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Participants will learn to plan healthful meals with balanced carbohydrates, learn more about the benefits of physical activity, discuss blood sugar highs and lows, and how to communicate more effectively with health professionals. Participants will receive a free book. The program will be held at Clarity Healthcare, 141 Communications Drive, Hannibal, MO 63401.

In this session, participants will learn about common problems, monitoring blood glucose, healthy eating and how to create an action plan.
