Stay Strong, Stay Healthy- Greene County (Session 1 of 11)

The "Stay Strong, Stay Healthy" program was developed by Tufts University and is designed to help middle-aged and older adults improve strength, flexibility, and balance. According to research conducted by Tufts, strength training improves bone density, can help reduce falls, improves arthritis symptoms, and increases flexibility in middle-aged and older adults and can lead to a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Session topic:
This session is a mandatory orientation. Participants will view a powerpoint covering the health benefits of strength training. Senior fitness pre-assessments will be conducted on all participants. There will also be a review of the exercises.

If you are low- to moderate-income, and would like help with filing your taxes, we will help you at no cost to you. Free tax returns can also be prepared for high school and college students; as well as individuals and families who do not own a business.
You do need to make an appointment. You can make your appointment by calling your local University of Missouri Extension Center or call the Andrew County Extension Center at 816.324.3147, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or you can leave a message and Kathy or Rebecca will return your call. Bring picture IDs for all adults, Social Security cards for everyone you are claiming, W-2s, 1099s, etc. It is also a good idea to bring anything you receive in the mail that indicates it is tax related and a copy of your last years’ tax return.

Better Choices, Better Health (Session 5 of 6)

Description:
The Better Choices, Better Health program is a community-based program which assists participants in maintaining quality of life when faced with chronic medical conditions. The program is provided in two and a half hour sessions, that meet
once a week for six weeks. People with different chronic health problems attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom deal with chronic diseases themselves. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, and, 6) how to evaluate new treatments. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Missouri Fence Law Seminar

Fence law in Missouri is somewhat complicated. This is due to the fact that two separate laws cover the state depending on the county in which your land is located. Another problem is that both laws are subject to interpretation. A comparison of both of Missouri’s fence laws will be given at the MU Extension Fence Law Seminar on March 4th. The seminar will be conducted via Adobe Connect, which is an internet-based conferencing system that allows two-way communication between different participating locations. Adobe Connect allows MU Extension specialists to present to audiences in multiple locations without having to travel to each location, which minimizes MU Extension’s program delivery costs.

Missouri continues to have a very complicated fence law, in large part due to the fact that two separate laws cover the state depending on the county that your land is in. Landowners need to be aware of what the law is in their county and this meeting will help them better understand their rights and responsibilities.
