Better Choices, Better Health (Session 2 of 6)

Description:

The Better Choices, Better Health program is a community-based program which assists participants in maintaining quality of life when faced with chronic medical conditions. The program is provided in two and a half hour sessions, that meet
once a week for six weeks. People with different chronic health problems attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom deal with chronic diseases themselves. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, and, 6) how to evaluate new treatments. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Eat Well, Be Well with Diabetes (Session 3 of 5)

This program will include five, two-hour weekly sessions that provides people with type 2 diabetes, and their family members, with knowledge and skills necessary for proper diabetes self-management. Knowledge and skills gained in the program can be applied to preventing diabetes particularly for people with pre-diabetes. The series include a strong focus on nutrition, the cornerstone of diabetes management, but also covers other self-management strategies to help individuals avoid short-term and long-term diabetes complications. Recipe demonstrations and tasting are included. One session will include a grocery tour of diabetic-friendly foods.

Private Pesticide Applicator Training- Dallas County

A Private Pesticide Applicator Training is being offered in Buffalo for those who need to acquire or renew their license to purchase restricted-use pesticides for private-land use.

This license is valid for five years. Participants must be 18 or older to receive the license.

This session will be taught face-to-face with an instructor. Video, PowerPoint, and a practical exercise will be used during the training.

While the "Childhood Obesity and Missouri's Eat Smart Guidelines for Child Care" Training will discuss the current childhood obesity epidemic and how it relates to child care. It also introduces the Missouri Eat Smart Child Care initiative as a way to improve child care meals.
