Stay Strong, Stay Healthy,- Advanced (Session 15 of 20)

The goal of the Advanced SSSH program is to increase on the fitness base acquired from SSSH by adding new and more challenging exercises. Advanced SSSH is designed to challenge older adults in new and different ways, to help avoid staleness and plateaus, and to improve activities of daily living. This program features exercises using resistance from body weight, hand weights, and ankle weights. It also features balance exercises, core exercises, low back exercises, and flexibility exercises.
Session topic:
Class members will warm-up, complete 2 sets of a series of 9-10 exercises and then cool down.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy-Hickory County (Session 10 of 10)

The "Stay Strong, Stay Healthy" program was developed by Tufts University and is designed to help middle-aged and older adults improve strength, flexibility, and balance. According to research conducted by Tufts, strength training improves bone density, can help reduce falls, improves arthritis symptoms, and increases flexibility in middle-aged and older adults and can lead to a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Session topic:
Participants will do warm-up exercises for about 5 minutes. They will do 8 simple strengthening exercises that can be done with or without weights. Cool down stretches will be done at the end of the session. Fitness post-assessments will be conducted.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (Session 15 of 20)

Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase aging adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. Over the 10 weeks, participants learn exercises to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. At each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.
Session topic:
Meets on Monday instead of Tuesday on this day. Warm-up, two sets of 8 strength-training exercises and cool-down will occur in this class.

Focus on Kids, developed by the University of Missouri, is a court-approved educational program for parents with minor children, who are seeking divorce, legal separation, motion to modify, annulment or paternity. The educational session will increase awareness of the effects marriage dissolution and/or custody has on children.

Focus on Kids is for parents to better understand how divorce affects children, and how their actions during and after the divorce can have long-term affects on the children involved.

Eat Well Be Well with Diabetes includes four, two-hour weekly sessions that provides people with type 2 diabetes, and their family members, with knowledge and skills necessary for proper diabetes self-management. Knowledge and skills gained in the program can be applied to preventing diabetes particularly for people with pre-diabetes. The series includes a strong focus on nutrition, the cornerstone of diabetes management, but also covers other self-management strategies to help individuals avoid short-term and long-term diabetes complications.
