Leaderhsip Camden County is a 10 session program spread over a 9-month period (Sept. 2013-May 2014). The program is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to:

Relatives As Parents--Northland Grandfamilies (Session 11 of 23)

Description:

The Northland Grandfamilies program serves grandparents in Clay and Platte Counties who are raising their grandchildren. The program also serves aunts/uncles and other relatives who are raising children under the age of 18. The program seeks to raise awareness of the issues facing grandparents/aunts/uncles who are filling the parenting role. Advocacy, education and referral services are important aspects of the program. Support group meetings are scheduled twice a month, with guest speakers on topics of interest. The program is made possible by a partnership of the Clay County Extension Council, the Platte County Senior Fund and Clay County Senior Services.

Session topic:

There will be only one support group meeting this month due to holiday schedules. The speaker will be Jennifer Boyden, Program Director of the National Alliance on Mental Illness. A holiday potluck luncheon will follow the program.

Registration:

Any grandparent who is raising grandchildren age 18 or younger is welcome to participate in Northland Grandfamilies. The program is also open to aunts/uncles and other adult relatives who are raising children. The program is free of charge. Conflict between parents, both before and after a divorce, is associated with many negative outcomes in children. The purpose of this workshop is to help parents learn how to nurture and support their children during and after their divorce.
