Master Gardener Training Level I - Pulaski County (Session 14 of 15)

Description:

Since 1997 the University of Missouri Extension has trained volunteers for the Missouri Master Gardener program. After completing the Core Training, Master Gardeners advise and train communities on gardening environmental and horticultural topics. They also participate in various educational service projects. The Master Gardener program is instrumental in building strong communities in our region. Participants will become certified as Master Gardeners after taking the 30-plus hour training course and fulfilling the first year’s 30 hour garden education related volunteer requirement. Every subsequent year, certification is maintained through the completion of at least 20 hours of volunteer time on projects and taking an additional 6 hours of continued horticultural education. Anyone interested in becoming a Missouri Master Gardener can apply to take the Fall 2016 Core Training. Contact the Pulaski County Extension Center at 573-774-6177 for more information. Sign-up deadline for the training is August 16th . The course will begin with an orientation on Thursday August 25th at the Sixth Grade Center, 810 Roosevelt St. in Waynesville, MO. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6-9:00pm. There are two field trips scheduled and one Saturday class planned.

Cooking Matters is a 6-session culinary-based nutrition education program that is delivered through; powerful, engaging lessons featuring hands-on learning that include group discussion with instructors. Program Goal: This program’s main goals are: 1. to provide knowledge and skills to help seniors prepare food at home more, and become aware of the negative health behaviors associated with obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Helps divorced and separated parents learn how to support their children through the divorce process and how to work together in co-parenting their children.  Focus on Kids satisfies the Missouri law that requires parents who are divorcing or filing a motion to modify the original divorce decree, or who have never been married but have filed a child custody case, to attend an educational parenting program.
