The goal of the Advanced SSSH program is to increase on the fitness base acquired from SSSH by adding new and more challenging exercises. Advanced SSSH is designed to challenge older adults in new and different ways, to help avoid staleness and plateaus, and to improve activities of daily living. This program features exercises using resistance from body weight, hand weights, and ankle weights. It also features balance exercises, core exercises, low back exercises, and flexibility exercises.

Class members will warm-up, complete 2 sets of a series of 9-10 exercises and then cool down.

Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase aging adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. Over the 10 weeks, participants learn exercises to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. At each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

Warm-up, two sets of 8 strength-training exercises and cool-down will occur in this class.

Youth Leaders is a leadership group open to 4-H members that will be 13 years of age by December 31st or older. We work together on community service projects to help improve our communities, help our citizens and make life more enjoyable. Our current community service project is raising money to send a Veteran on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit their war memorial. Youth Leaders also help lead activities at the Back to School Fair the first Saturday in August. The group learns about being a 4-H project leader so they can help lead real project meetings alongside the adult volunteers throughout the year.
If you are looking for a way to get involved in a leadership role, Youth Leaders is a way to do just that. This group meets about every other month at the Extension Office. We will have snacks at the meeting to munch on.

The Knox County 4-H Council is a policy-making body, which has the responsibility for guiding, promoting and implementing the 4-H program. The Council is responsible for approving the curriculum offered within the county. It also plans, budgets, coordinates, and manages the many educational events which are part of the curriculum. If financial resources are needed the council is responsible for developing these resources. Program and leadership development is also the councils responsibility. The Knox County 4-H Council meets the second Tuesday during the months of: September, November, January, March, May, and July. Special council meetings may be called when necessary. Each 4-H Club is made up of two voting representatives from each club in the county.
