    Master Gardener Training Level I - Pulaski County (Session 13 of 15)

    Description:

    Since 1997 the University of Missouri Extension has trained volunteers for the Missouri Master Gardener program. After completing the Core Training, Master Gardeners advise and train communities on gardening environmental and horticultural topics. They also participate in various educational service projects. The Master Gardener program is instrumental in building strong communities in our region. Participants will become certified as Master Gardeners after taking the 30-plus hour training course and fulfilling the first year’s 30 hour garden education related volunteer requirement. Every subsequent year, certification is maintained through the completion of at least 20 hours of volunteer time on projects and taking an additional 6 hours of continued horticultural education. Anyone interested in becoming a Missouri Master Gardener can apply to take the Fall 2016 Core Training. Contact the Pulaski County Extension Center at 573-774-6177 for more information. Sign-up deadline for the training is August 16th . The course will begin with an orientation on Thursday August 25th at the Sixth Grade Center, 810 Roosevelt St. in Waynesville, MO. Classes will be held on Thursday evenings from 6-9:00pm. There are two field trips scheduled and one Saturday class planned.

This class is designed to teach you how to create and use a cash budget to prepare for future business performance. During this course, you will learn to estimate future sources and uses of cash. You will also learn how to analyze your predictions to make more informed decisions.     New Overtime Rules - What Employers Need to Know

    Description:

    Cooking Matters is a 6-session culinary-based nutrition education program that is delivered through; powerful, engaging lessons featuring hands-on learning that include group discussion with instructors. Program Goal: This program’s main goals are: 1. to provide knowledge and skills to help seniors prepare food at home more, and become aware of the negative health behaviors associated with obesity and sedentary lifestyles. The primary objectives are to teach: (1) Cooking tips and techniques; (ii) tips for proper food safety; (iii) storage and sanitation; (iv) nutrition and health information to ensure optimal health; (v) budgeting -stretching food dollars and maximizing resources; (vi) tips to get families to try new foods; and (vii) shopping healthfully on a limited budget. The program evaluates participants at week 1 and week 6 and behavior changes occur consistently in all individuals.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Ralls 2016 (Session 4 of 16)

    Description:

    Missouri's SSSH program is designed to increase aging adults access to a safe, structured and effective strength training program. Over 8 weeks, participants learn exercises to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. During each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health. SSSH is modeled after the evidenced-based StrongWomen program developed by researchers at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science at Tufts University. While the original Tufts program includes only women, University of Missouri Extension has adapted the curriculum to include men.
