Stay Strong, Stay Healthy,- Advanced (Session 11 of 20)

The goal of the Advanced SSSH program is to increase on the fitness base acquired from SSSH by adding new and more challenging exercises. Advanced SSSH is designed to challenge older adults in new and different ways, to help avoid staleness and plateaus, and to improve activities of daily living. This program features exercises using resistance from body weight, hand weights, and ankle weights. It also features balance exercises, core exercises, low back exercises, and flexibility exercises.

Health Insurance Education - Perry County

Description:

MU Extension’s Health Insurance Education Initiative provides education about the Affordable Care Act (new health care law) as it relates to health insurance in effort to prepare Missourians to make informed health insurance decisions. This initiative allows MU Extension to position itself as a leader in the state for providing the necessary education on this compelling public policy issue.
Programming under the Health Insurance Education Initiative occurs on various levels:
1) General health insurance education provides the information Missourians need to understand new health insurance regulations of the ACA and in what ways they change program participants' lives, including: if and how their current health insurance plan may/may not change and when, if and when participants should enroll in a new health insurance plan or continue with their current health insurance plan, and if participants qualify for subsidies to help them pay for their insurance, and if so, how to obtain those subsidies.
2) Health insurance literacy training is needed by some audiences and provides the critical resources and skills needed to navigate the forthcoming Health Insurance Marketplace (formerly known as the Health Insurance Exchange) or other health insurance plans not part of the Marketplace.

Both workshops will include the same information, so please register for one or the other. Pre-registration is required to prevent cancellation of the workshops. To register please call the Perry County Extension Office at 573-547-4504 by 5p.m. on October 15th.

Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase aging adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. Over the 10 weeks, participants learn exercises to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. At each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Private Pesticide Applicator Training Greene County

Missouri law requires all purchasers and users of restricted-use pesticides to attend a training session to be certified for a private applicators license. This 3 hour training (with an instructor) will allow individuals to recertify or receive initial training to be licensed to purchase or use restricted-use pesticides for five years. The private applicator license is for your personal use only. You must also be a producer of some kind of agricultural commodity (pasture, hay, corn, etc.) You may not use this license for any kind of employment where you apply the restricted chemicals to structures or land. Master Gardener Core Course (Session 10 of 12)

Description:

Since 1997 the University of Missouri Extension has trained volunteers for the Missouri Master Gardener program. After completing the Core Course, Master Gardeners advise and train communities on gardening and environmental horticulture, and participate in various educational service projects. The Master Gardener program is instrumental in building strong communities in our region.

Participants will become certified as Master Gardeners after taking the 30-plus hour training course and fulfilling the first year’s 30 hour garden education related volunteer requirement. Every subsequent year, certification is maintained through the completion of at least 20 hours of volunteer time on projects and taking an additional 6 hours of continued horticultural education.

Anyone interested in becoming a Missouri Master Gardener can apply to take the fall 2013 core course. The course will begin with an orientation on Thursday, August 22 at the Pulaski County Courthouse 301 Historic 66 East, Waynesville, MO 65583. Some refreshments will be provided.

Participants will become certified as Master Gardeners after taking the 30-plus hour training course and fulfilling the first year’s 30 hour garden education related volunteer requirement. Every subsequent year, certification is maintained through the completion of at least 20 hours of volunteer time on projects and 6 hours of learning through continuing horticultural education.

Anyone interested in becoming a Master Gardener can apply to take the fall 2013 core course. Members of the general public not interested in becoming an active master gardener may audit individual classes of interest. The fee for auditing a Thursday night class is $15 and the fee for auditing a field trip is $35 (includes a box lunch).
