    Missouri’s SSSH program is designed to increase aging adults’ access to a safe, structured and effective strength training program. Over 8 weeks, participants learn exercises to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. During each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health. SSSH is modeled after the evidenced-based StrongWomen program developed by researchers at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science at Tufts University.     Estate, Succession and Retirement Planning, like many other issues today, has its own set of jargon that can be difficult for people to understand. Additionally, farmers and businesses face some unique problems related to estate planning that other wage earners do not. Missouri’s “Your Farm, Your Business Your Future” curriculum is designed to provide basic estate, succession and retirement planning concepts. It walks participants through the requirements and implications of various pathways for the use of their long-term accumulated assets. And the class helps participants discuss their needs with financial and legal professional help without getting the feeling “they were completely over our heads and we didn’t understand what they were saying”. Topics that are covered in this program include: property ownership in Missouri, business structure, choosing your advisers, probate in Missouri, federal and state estate tax issues, wills, trusts, non-probate transfers, federal and state estate tax issues, special estate tax provisions, long-term care concerns, and the importance of family communication.

    Master Gardener Training Level I - Pulaski County (Session 10 of 15)

    Description:

    Since 1997 the University of Missouri Extension has trained volunteers for the Missouri Master Gardener program. After completing the Core Training, Master Gardeners advise and train communities on gardening environmental and horticultural topics. They also participate in various educational service projects. The Master Gardener program is instrumental in building strong communities in our region. Participants will become certified as Master Gardeners after taking the 30-plus hour training course and fulfilling the first year’s 30 hour garden education related volunteer requirement. Every subsequent year, certification is maintained through the completion of at least 20 hours of volunteer time on projects and taking an additional 6 hours of continued horticultural education. Anyone interested in becoming a Missouri Master Gardener can apply to take the Fall 2016 Core Training. Contact the Pulaski County Extension Center at 573-774-6177 for more information. Sign-up deadline for the training is August 16th . The course will begin with an orientation on Thursday August 25th at the Sixth Grade Center, 810 Roosevelt St. in Waynesville, MO.     Description:

    Clover Kids - a club meeting for 4-H members ages 5-7. Activities and snacks are provided at each meeting. Activities are science based, open ended and hands-on, requiring critical thinking, exploration and creativity. Attendees must be enrolled as a 4-H Clover Kid in Polk County. Through Clover Kids clubs, children learn how to get along, share, and work in groups, explore their interests, and build self-confidence. Clover Kid Activities introduce five to seven-year olds to the 4-H concept of learning by doing.
