Take Control of Your Finances - Sedalia

Description:

"Take Control of Your Finances" is a seminar that provides information to those who are unemployed, underemployed, laid-off or dislocated. Its focus it to help attendees develop a plan to survive, reduce stress and continue to meet their needs until a new job opportunity is offered. Topics include: filing for unemployment benefits, talking with family about finances, reviewing personal resources, developing a budget, prioritizing debts, contacting creditors, avoiding scams and predatory lenders, considering available community resources and more.

The program is operated in collaboration with Business and Industry under a state contract with the Department of Economic Development. Local Career Centers work with Extension specialists to serve individuals and arrange the seminars.

The workshops are offered every 2nd Tuesday of the month, 9:30 – 11:30 AM at the Missouri Career Center in Sedalia, (215 E. 5th St.) and every 4th Tuesday of the month, 1:30 – 4:30 PM at the Saline County Extension Center in Marshall(353 S. Lafayette). Class size is limited and individual sessions with fewer than six registered attendees will be cancelled, so please register well before your preferred date and location.

Getting Control of Your Financial Statements

What product or service has the best profit margin? Is operating overhead hindering growth? Are you efficiently turning over inventory? Effectively managing accounts receivable? One of the greatest ways to empower yourself as an entrepreneur is to understand the financials of your business, giving you greater insight and information to act upon. During this course you will learn to identify key business information that is captured on the income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement. Through case studies, you will learn to calculate several key ratios and understand what those ratios mean in terms of business productivity, profitability, and overall success. You will leave this session with a greater understanding of how to read and interpret financial documents and how to use that information to make informed executive business decisions based on sound financial understanding. This is information you can take back to your business and use right away. This isn’t theory – it’s practical application for real businesses – like yours!
