Stay Strong, Stay Healthy is a strength training program developed by Tufts University to help men and women increase strength, flexibility and balance. Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase middle age and older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. At each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

Chronic Disease Self-Management (Session 3 of 6)

Description:

The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) is a community-based program which assists participants in maintaining quality of life when faced with chronic medical conditions. The CDSMP is provided in two and a half hour sessions, once a week for six weeks, in community settings (e.g. senior centers, churches, libraries). People with different chronic health problems attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom deal with chronic diseases themselves. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, and 6) how to evaluate new treatments. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants' confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

This offering will provide you with an overview of the critical first steps associated with starting a business. It is designed specifically for those who are thinking about a new business venture. Participants will learn about the importance of planning, discuss basic legal and regulatory requirements such as legal structures, licensing, and tax form requirements. You’ll also be introduced to marketing and financial basics which will enable you to determine your market and competitive strategy. An aspiring entrepreneur needs to walk through this process and do the work up front before investing hard-earned money and avoid costly mistakes.

You’ll leave this class with tools for personal assessment, startup cost estimation, financial statements and sales projections. You’ll gain the basic knowledge to start a small business and be better able to make informed decisions.

Forage Management Update

Forage producers may be getting a new tool like their friends in corn and soybean production. MU Extension research in Clifton City is testing the potential of on-the-go yield monitoring of forages with a GPS tracking system.
