Relatives As Parents--Northland Grandfamilies Program (Session 4 of 5)

Description:

The Northland Grandfamilies Program strives to raise awareness of issues facing grandparents and aunts/uncles who are raising grandchildren/nieces/nephews. The program offers twice-monthly support group meetings featuring a wide variety of speakers and topics. The program also provides information and referrals to community agencies, access to counselors, health professionals and legal advice. Updates on current legislation affecting relatives as parents are shared on a regular basis and opportunities to educate and advocate are provided to paticipants. The University of Missouri Extension Council in Clay County partners with Clay County Senior Services and the Platte County Senior Fund to provide this program in Clay and Platte Counties.

Session topic:

The Northland Grandfamilies Program will provide an exhibit at the North Kansas City School District's "Back to School" fair and share information about the program with those participating.

Registration:

For more information on the Northland Grandfamilies Program, contact the University of Missouri Extension Center at 816-407-3490. The program is free and open to any grandparent, aunt or uncle who is raising grandchildren, nieces or nephews under the age of 18.

Focus on Kids--Platte County

Focus on Kids is the court-mandated program in Platte County for separated/divorcing parents and for parents doing modifications of their parenting plans.

Registration:

Parents whose cases are filed in Platte County must contact the Circuit Clerk's office at 816-858-1986 to register for the Focus on Kids class. Parents whose cases are filed in another county or out-of-state, but wish to take the class in Platte County should contact the University of Missouri Extension Center at 816-407-3490 for information on how to register.
