MU Extension in collaboration with Drury's Center for Community Studies is hosting a series of open community meetings and workshops to develop a 'Vision Toolkit' for a 20-25 year future, community wide vision for Houston. The process is intended to be intensely participant driven, BUT we need people to attend to be heard. Eight (8) architecture students are working with a diverse Vision Advisory Committee and need YOUR participation to build the integrity of a long range, collaborative vision for Houston.
This visioning effort is intended to develop a broader discussion of how downtown renovation and connectivity in Houston can better realize its important potential for placemaking, heritage tourism, transit, housing, 'city repair', and related economic development.
Since Spring 2007, the academic collaboration between MU Extension and the Drury Center for Community Studies has assisted 28 communities with 30 visioning projects resulting in 5 DREAM Initiative communities and economic activity in the projected range of 20-30 million dollars. For each community this represents a first step along a path toward revitalization, entrepreneurship, economic development and overall sustainability.
An initial site visit and discussion with stakeholders. Through listening sessions and an introduction to the Participatory Visioning Process, participants will consider the long range notions for the ideal Houston area of 20-25 years from now.
Open to the entire community.
