Description:

Take Control of Your Finances is a free workshop to help you keep control of family finances while laid off, unemployed, or underemployed. Managing and budgeting your bills and your money until a new job opportunity appears is less stressful when you have a plan. The workshop is led by University of Missouri Extension Family Financial Educators, and topics include: • How to track your spending and how to develop a budget • How to cut expenses • How to prioritize debts and how to maintain good relations with creditors • How to avoid debt and credit scams that target unemployed victims • How to identify resources in your community that can help you save money Learning more about these topics will help relieve financial strain on you and your family while you are unemployed.

Missouri Tomato Conference

When:  Monday, Aug. 14, 2017, 8 a.m. to Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2017, 5 p.m.

Description:

Tomatoes are the most important vegetable crop, both in Missouri and worldwide. Tomatoes also offer a unique set of challenges for commercial farmers and home gardeners alike. Join nationally recognized and local tomato experts for two days of educational sessions and tours of tomato farms at the Missouri Tomato Conference. Discussion topics will focus on both field and tunnel/greenhouse tomato production, and will include tomato culture, tomato cultivars, insect and disease management, fertility management, tomato grafting, harvest and postharvest handling, and tomato marketing. Keynote presenters include Dr. Rick Snyder, Mississippi State University, and Dr. Richard Weinzierl, University of Illinois. Two local tomato farmers are featured on the program, as are a host of regional tomato specialists. We will tour three farms on the second day of the conference.
