The Northland Grandfamilies Program strives to raise awareness of issues facing grandparents and aunts/uncles who are raising grandchildren/nieces/nephews. The program offers twice-monthly support group meetings featuring a wide variety of speakers and topics. The program also provides information and referrals to community agencies, access to counselors, health professionals and legal advice. Updates on current legislation affecting relatives as parents are shared on a regular basis and opportunities to educate and advocate are provided to paticipants. The University of Missouri Extension Council in Clay County partners with Clay County Senior Services and the Platte County Senior Fund to provide this program in Clay and Platte Counties.
The Northland Grandfamilies Program will provide an exhibit at the Liberty Head Start "Back to School" fair and share information about the program with those participating.
For more information on the Northland Grandfamilies Program, contact the University of Missouri Extension Center at 816-407-3490. The program is free and open to any grandparent, aunt or uncle who is raising grandchildren, nieces or nephews under the age of 18.
