    Wurdack Warm Season Grass Demonstration plot work

    Working collaboratively, MU and NRCS will use one-on-one consultations, media offerings, and on-farm demonstrations to teach and assist landowners who want to make sustainable choices for grasslands.

    This cooperative agreement is made between the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the Curators of the University of Missouri (MU).

    Work will be performed in support of the Farm Bill conservation programs such as: Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP), Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), and Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP).

    Master Gardener - Perry County Master Gardener Training Spring 2019 (Session 7 of 12)

    Description:

    The University of Missouri Extension’s Master Gardener program is an opportunity for people of all ages to receive in-depth horticulture training and then apply what they have learned to improve lives in their communities and educate others about gardening. Training includes 30 hours of instruction by horticulture instructors as well as many guides and handouts:
    Topics include plant growth and development, soils and fertility, vegetable gardening, home fruit production, insect and disease control, annual and perennial flowers, basic landscaping concepts, and lawncare and weeds.
    After completing Master Gardener training, Master Gardeners volunteer 30 hours to educate others on gardening topics and research–based horticulture information. Volunteer activities may include work in clinics in the community, helping local residents diagnose plant and insect problems write articles for newsletters and newspapers, exhibits at home and garden shows and fairs, organize community gardening projects, develop youth gardening programs, teach gardening classes, conduct home horticulture research, and assist in senior gardening programs

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults access to a safe, structured, and effective strength-training program. Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each class, a prescribed set of eight upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches.     Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions (Session 4 of 6)

    Description:

    The program is for individuals with any chronic condition, and their family and caregivers. Chronic conditions include arthritis, asthma, depression, diabetes or pre-diabetes, fibromyalgia, heart disease, lupus, and osteoporosis, among others. Participants learn strategies for managing chronic conditions. Topics include eating well and exercise, relaxation and handling difficult emotions, problem-solving to address barriers, communicating with healthcare professionals, managing medications and symptoms, and setting realistic goals.     Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 (Session 10 of 16)

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.
