This Personal Democracy Media conference call will focus on the "Using Social Media in a Disaster" report co-authored by Rebecca Williams of Neosho and David Burton, MU Extension. This is a biweekly program for subscribers who work at the intersection of technology, politics and government. In general about 30-50 people listen in live, and then the calls are converted to podcasts and made available to our broader community of readers and subscribers.
They're an hour long, usually on a Thursday between 1-2pm so people can listen in during their lunch hour. Our schedule for the summer months is being put together now, and so we have openings starting June 21.

Eat Well, Be Well with Diabetes is a 4-class series designed to provide those with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes with practical information and skills needed to self-manage diabetes and promote optimal health. The program teaches the many aspects of diabetes self-care with a strong focus on nutrition. Spouses and other family members of those with diabetes will also benefit from the classes.
The program includes demonstration and tasting of easy recipes as well as hands-on
activities to encourage discussion and sharing among all participants. You will receive copies of all recipes used in-class plus many more for home use.

In this session we define diabetes and discuss what is happening in the body of a person with diabetes. We also discuss how foods impact blood sugar.

Goat Production Workshop Series (Session 2 of 2)

The University of Missouri Extension and Lincoln University Cooperative Extension are working together to put on a series of workshops that will discuss nutrition, reproduction, health and economics of goat production.
The first workshop of the series will be on May 10th at the Holden City Hall in Holden, MO starting at 6:00 pm. Topics covered at this workshop will be goat nutrition covered by Lincoln University farm outreach worker Jeff Yearington and University of Missouri – Extension county livestock specialist Dr. Patrick Davis. As well as, economics of goat production covered by University of Missouri – Extension agriculture business specialist Whitney Wiegel.
The second and final workshop of this series will be on June 28th at the Higginsville Community Building at Fairground Park in Higginsville, MO starting at 6:00 pm. Topics covered at this workshop will be goat reproduction by Missouri goat producer Larry Robinson, and goat health by local Veterinarian Dr. Bob Shockley.

Join us for a casual Community Garden one hour discussion about a variety of growth and pest issues related to vegetable gardening. The location this month is the garden of James Quinn, MU's Regional Horticulture Specialist, who is also the lead author of the Missouri Master Gadener's Vegetable Chapter. James's vegetable garden is mostly on raised beds and managed intensively. Also joining will be Bill McKelvey of the Community Garden Coalition and Michael Burden, the Health Department Community Garden leader. This free event open to all.
