    Description:

    A week-long culinary "camp" for middle school-aged children in the City of St. Louis. The goal of the camp is to teach basic cooking skills. Each day students will make 2-3 recipes learning how to use knives confidently, measure, and other important cooking skills. Students will also learn some basic healthy eating principals.

    Seeds of Hope Farm: Community Farm Dinners Summer 2019 (Session 1 of 2)

    Description:

    Seeds of Hope Farm is an urban farm located in Spanish Lake in St. Louis County. The farm is owned and operated by the Community Action Agency of St. Louis County (CAASTLC). Seeds of Hope Farm grows a wide variety of produce for use in a CSA program. Their CSA program is unique in the sense that they provide subsidized membership opportunities for individuals and families who are unable to afford the cost of a regular price membership. They also accept SNAP as a form of payment for membership fees.
    Each growing season the farm host community farm dinners for their CSA members and residents living in the area. The dinner features fresh produce grown on the farm and a nutiriton/culinary professional leads guests in making a healthy, local dinner. MU Extension hosted two dinners this growing season for Seeds of Hope- one in May and one in June.

    Session topic:

    Made Pasta with Beans and Greens, Tossed Salad with Homemade Honey Mustard Dressing, and Banana Strawberry Crumble.

    Planning the Fall Vegetable Garden- Already?

    When:  Wednesday, June 26, 2019, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

    Description:

    We may be watching our peppers and tomatoes gaining height, but now is the time to begin planning for a bumper crop of fall vegetables. Justin Keay, Extension horticulturalist, will present the timeline for starting fall vegetable plants and direct seeding of fall root crops. He will highlight some of the imporatnt practices for fall plantings to help ensure a bountiful second harvest. This class will include some vegetable seed giveaways!
