Entrepreneurship: Planning, Financing and Starting Your Business

This three-hour offering will provide you with a broad overview of the most critical aspects of planning, financing and starting your business venture. Participants will assess their strengths and weaknesses in terms of business ownership, learn about the importance of planning, discuss legal and regulatory requirements, and identify the costs associated with starting and operating a business. The program will provide you with an opportunity to become familiar with the SBA loan programs, requirements and what constitutes a successful loan application.
Preparing a business plan is one of the most daunting tasks in starting and running a successful business. It could also be the most critical task! Our seminar will explain the fundamentals everyone needs to know before “putting pen to paper.”
Identify the key sources of business financing. Participants will also familiarize themselves with lending terminology, credit requirements, and loan evaluation criteria.
Provides tools to assess personal, managerial, technical and financial skills to successfully run a business.

Chronic Disease Self-Management (Session 5 of 6)

The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) is a community-based program which assists participants in maintaining quality of life when faced with chronic medical conditions. The CDSMP is provided in two and a half hour sessions, once a week for six weeks, in community settings (e.g. senior centers, churches, libraries). People with different chronic health problems attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom deal with chronic diseases themselves. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, and 6) how to evaluate new treatments. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants' confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

Team Nutrition for Child Care (Session 6 of 7)

Cooking Matters is a culinary-based nutrition education program that aims at reducing food insecurity and empowering individuals and families with skills to cook at home.
Two hours include: engaging Nutrition & food safety discussions and food preparation. Participants make two recipes and enjoy eating together and discussing skills learned in class. Participants also take home groceries to make one of the recipe at home
