Urban Region Jr Leaders (Session 6 of 7)

When:  Monday, June 11, 2018, 9 a.m. to Friday, June 15, 2018, 4 p.m.

Description:

The purpose of Jr Leaders is to teach youth the importance of understanding themselves as leaders and how to apply leadership skills in a team setting as well as assist them in identifying opportunities to practice their leadership skills. Through active participation, Jr Leaders will interact with business, community and government leaders, educators and extension staff to explore ways to contribute to the Urban Region. Beyond leadership and service, Jr. Leaders provides a social network for teens within the Urban Region.

Master Pollinator Steward Program (Session 5 of 6)

Description:

Pollinators — such as bees, birds, butterflies, bats and insects — play a crucial role in the production of most fruits and vegetables. They also support healthy ecosystems that clean the air, stabilize soils and support wildlife. Studies show that pollinator populations are in decline because of a loss of feeding and nesting habitats, pollution and the misuse of pesticides. Learn how to protect our agricultural economy and food supply with the Master Pollinator Steward program. MU Extension specialists and stakeholders in the field developed this unbiased, research-based curriculum, which includes hands-on activities and classroom presentations.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 FBC (Session 2 of 17)

Description:

This is a low-impact strength training program for people who are 50 or better. The class meets for 1 hour, twice a week for 8 weeks to complete a series of eight exercises with a warm-up and cool down. This program helps participants increase their physical activity which may improve strength, balance and flexibility, resulting in reduced risk for falls, better overall health and greater independence.

MU Extension Festival Fundraiser and Cow Plop Raffle for Webster County Extension Center

Description:

This fundraiser is to benefit the University of Missouri Extension Center in Webster County, to allow them to continue providing unbiased, science-based educational advice, programming and services to county. The signature activity at this festival will be the Cow Plop raffle, where participants for $5 can rent a five-foot-square plot for a chance to win a $500 cash prize. A maximum of 1000 plots will be available to rent in the arena, tickets will be randomly assigned to the grid, and if the Jersey cow plops a pie on your plot, you win. Raffle tickets are available now at the Webster County Extension Center, 800 S. Marshall Street in Marshfield, printable from online at http://extension.missouri.edu/webster, or June 15 at the festival prior to 7 p.m. Free burgers or pulled pork sandwiches will be available, with side items, desserts and drinks at $1 each. While waiting for the cow to plop her pie, eventgoers can bid on silent auction items that include wood crafts, bull semen and gift cards. Kids can test their navigation skills through the fire department smoke house. Winners of the cakeless cake walk will receive gift cards for sweets, and everyone can buy a throw to get well-known residents wet in the dunk tank. Advanced Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) is an evidence based, eight week exercise program for older and sedentary, middle-aged adults. SSSH meets the Centers for Disease Control's (CDC) recommendation for healthy muscle strengthening activities. The hour-long class meets twice each week, and includes warm-up activities, strengthening exercises with or without weights and cool-down activities. Advanced Stay Strong, Stay Healthy is safe for all who have successfully completed SSSH level 1 at least twice are ready for the next level of strength training.
