    Youth Mental Health First Aid

    The Mental Health First Aid training presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders in the U.S. and introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 @ WILS (Session 14 of 17)

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adult access to a safe, structured, and effective strength-training program. Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each class, a prescribed set of eight upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Community needs assessments may identify a need that requires a policy, system or environmental (PSE) change to be made to impact the larger community rather than individual educational efforts. PSE strategies is a global term for a number of strategies that can be implemented all with the long term goal of improving the overall health of the community.

    The Southeast Youth Coalition(SEYC or the Coalition) formed in April 2018 to address behavior health issues affecting the youth of the Southeast community of Kansas City Missouri. Specifically,SEYC focuses on Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drug use and abuse, Violence, and Suicide. The Coalition defines youth generally between the ages of 13-24.     Parents are forever. Although parents can divorce each other, their children are not divorceable. Each parent is responsible for nurturing and creating their children's sense of security and well-being — even through the divorce process. Focus on Kids was designed to help you with that task.



    What will I gain?



    After attending Focus On Kids, which is only two and one-half hours long, you will:



    ? Understand the importance of ongoing, supportive and nurturing involvement by both parents.



    ? Receive information on both children’s and adolescents’ developmental needs, abilities and common reactions to divorce.



    ? Learn specific behaviors that help in a coparenting situation and those that should be avoided.

    Pre-registration is required for each parent.



    A $25 per-person fee, payable by cash or check to Buchanan County Extension, can be paid in advance, or immediately prior to the start of class.

    The mission of the Missouri Master Gardener Extension Program is “helping others learn to grow.” The Master Gardener program provides in-depth horticultural training to individuals throughout Missouri who then volunteer their time applying what they have learned to help others in their communities to learn about gardening and environmental education.

    The Master Gardener program promotes and raises public awareness of the University of Missouri Extension as a source of unbiased, research-based gardening information. Through activities such as MU Extension hotlines or answer services, workshops, speaker’s bureaus, garden show booths, and demonstration projects, Master Gardeners provide gardening information to thousands of Missourians each year.

    To become trained as a Master Gardener, an individual must attend a 30-hour classroom Core Course training. Then the Master Gardener trainee is required to give 30 hours of volunteer service back to the community in approved MU Extension activities
