    Youth Mental Health First Aid

    The Mental Health First Aid training presents an overview of mental illness and substance use disorders in the U.S. and introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments.
    Participants who take the 8-hour course are certified as Mental Health First Aiders.     Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    The 2019 Polk County 4-H Exhibit Day is an opportunity for 4-H members to showcase their knowledge and skills gained through their 4-H project work. Hand made exhibits that are awarded a blue ribbon earn the opportunity to be displayed at the Ozark Empire Fair in Springfield and the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia later in the summer.

    All handmade items must be created by the 4-H member during this 2019 project year. The 4-H member must be enrolled in the project in order to submit an item in the project. See the 4-H rules and guidelines for more information regarding project size, quantity etc.
