    Extension Connection Releases

    The Missouri Tomato School will include two days of information packed presentations and tours. The Missouri Tomato School features nationally known tomato experts Dr. Rick Snyder,– Extension/Research Professor at the Truck Crops Experiment Station, Crystal Springs, MS. His areas of specialty include greenhouse tomatoes and other vegetables, field vegetables, and mushrooms. Dr. Snyder hosts the well-known Mississippi Green-house Tomato Short Course, now in its 28th year, and is a highly sought speaker on all aspects of greenhouse tomato production. Dr. Joe Kemble, Extension Vegetable Specialist & Professor at Auburn University, AL. He is the senior editor of the annual Vegetable Crop Handbook for the Southeastern US, and works extensively with all aspects of tomato production. Dr. Kemble’s research program focuses on use of cover crops and reduced tillage for vegetable production, nutrient management, and double cropping using plasticulture.

    Master Gardener - Perry County Master Gardener Training Spring 2019 (Session 6 of 12)

    Description:

    The University of Missouri Extension’s Master Gardener program is an opportunity for people of all ages to receive in-depth horticulture training and then apply what they have learned to improve lives in their communities and educate others about gardening. Training includes 30 hours of instruction by horticulture instructors as well as many guides and handouts:
    Topics include plant growth and development, soils and fertility, vegetable gardening, home fruit production, insect and disease control, annual and perennial flowers, basic landscaping concepts, and lawncare and weeds.
    After completing Master Gardener training, Master Gardeners volunteer 30 hours to educate others on gardening topics and research–based horticulture information. Volunteer activities may include work in clinics in the community, helping local residents diagnose plant and insect problems write articles for newsletters and newspapers, exhibits at home and garden shows and fairs, organize community gardening projects, develop youth gardening programs, teach gardening classes, conduct home horticulture research, and assist in senior gardening programs

    Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions (Session 3 of 6)

SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.
