    Missouri Tomato School

    The Missouri Tomato School will include two days of information packed presentations and tours. The Missouri Tomato School features nationally known tomato experts Dr. Rick Snyder,– Extension/Research Professor at the Truck Crops Experiment Station, Crystal Springs, MS. His areas of specialty include greenhouse tomatoes and other vegetables, field vegetables, and mushrooms. Dr. Snyder hosts the well-known Mississippi Green-house Tomato Short Course, now in its 28th year, and is a highly sought speaker on all aspects of greenhouse tomato production. Dr. Joe Kemble, Extension Vegetable Specialist & Professor at Auburn University, AL. He is the senior editor of the annual Vegetable Crop Handbook for the Southeastern US, and works extensively with all aspects of tomato production. Dr. Kemble’s research program focuses on use of cover crops and reduced tillage for vegetable production, nutrient management, and double cropping using plasticulture.

    Better Choices, Better Health - Diabetes Self-Management (Session 5 of 7)

    The Diabetes Self-Management program is a 6-week community-based class that assists participants in managing their type 2 diabetes. This program, developed at the Stanford Patient Education Research Center, covers topics including: techniques to deal with the symptoms of diabetes, exercises for improving strength and endurance, healthy eating, meal planning, appropriate use of medication, and working with health care providers. Participants make weekly action plans, share experiences and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program. A self-management book, CD and refreshments included. The program is free but pre-registration is required and space is limited.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1: Nevada @ Spring Village (Session 2 of 17)

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Diabetes Self-Management Program - Clarity Healthcare May 2019 (Session 5 of 6)

    Description:

    This course is designed to help people who have diabetes or individuals who care for someone who has diabetes to become better self-managers of their condition. This program will consist of six sessions each lasting 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Participants will learn to plan healthful meals with balanced carbohydrates, learn more about the benefits of physical activity, discuss blood sugar highs and lows, and how to communicate more effectively with health professionals. Participants will receive a free book. The program will be held at Clarity Healthcare, 141 Communications Drive, Hannibal, MO 63401.


    Session topic:

    Participants will learn how to deal with depression, how to change their thinking to be more positive, communication skills and tips for taking medicines. Action plans will be made for the next week.

    Helps divorced and separated parents learn how to support their children through the divorce process and how to work together in co-parenting their children.  Focus on Kids satisfies the Missouri law that requires parents who are divorcing or filing a motion to modify the original divorce decree, or who have never been married but have filed a child custody case, to attend an educational parenting program.
