Spotted Wing Drosophila Fruit Pest Workshop
When: Monday, May 19, 2014, 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Jefferson County Extension Center
301 3rd Street, Hillsboro MO map...
The Spotted Wing Drosophila is a new invasive insect pest that is threatening fruit crops. Last year this small vinegar fly hit berries and other small fruit crops across the state. The female of this fly cuts into unripe fruit to lay its eggs. The eggs then hatch into tiny maggots that infest the fruit. As a new insect to your farm or home garden, you may not know you have it until someone bites into the fruit and finds it. This workshop will teach you how to identify the Spotted Wing Drosophila and how to trap it before it becomes a major problem for your local fruit crop production or home garden. more...
