Experience nature and be inspired by the beauty of the gardens. This retreat is for anyone who wants to be more creative whether you like journal writing, poetry, fiction, non-fiction or news writing. No prior writing experience is needed. For three hours, let MU Extension specialist David Burton, a journalist and published author, guide your journey into the natural world with creative writing exercises in the gardens. These sessions are held rain or shine (under cover if weather is bad)

Leadership Academy (Session 1 of 2)

Description:

University of Missouri Extension and the Howell County Extension Center is offering a Leadership Academy in West Plains beginning May 1. Missouri Training Institute Leadership Series under the direction of University of Missouri Extension offers top-notch training for managers and leaders in all industries including government, for-profit and non-profit organizations operating in southwest Missouri and northern Arkansas.

The professional series will address the following topics: building effective relationships, communicating successfully, leading high-performance teams, strategic planning and action planning.
The training will take place over five days with classes beginning on Thursday, May 1 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and continuing each Thursday in May. All classes will be held at the Howell County Extension Center, 217 Aid Ave., West Plains.

Session topic:

Building Effective Relationships in Business: This is one of the best strategies to ensure team performance and prevent conflicts. Our workplace relationships have a huge impact on our overall happiness.

Registration:

The cost for the entire series is $750 per person or $185 for a full-day session of your choice. Send a second person for $50 off one session or $100 off the Academy price. Enrollment in the series can be done by calling the Howell County Extension office at (417) 256-2391 or emailing them at howellco@missouri.edu. Organic Gardening Academy (Session 2 of 11)

Description:

The Greene County MU Extension office is pleased to host the 2014 Organic Gardening Academy. This series of classes related to organic gardening will present proven, science based techniques on a wide range of topics. Each class will include a presentation of the subject, followed by a hands-on demonstration of the techniques learned during the class. The speakers have a passion for organic gardening, and subject matter expertise.

The introductory class on April 17 is free. The registration fee for each following class is $20. A discounted rate of $180 is available for all 10 classes purchased as a package, if purchased by May 1, 2014.
