Store will host a community event to celebrate the beginning of an ongoing effort to promote healthy eating by making it easier to find fresh, canned or frozen fruits and vegetables, low-fat dairy products, whole grain foods, healthy beverages and healthy snacks. Come celebrate with us!
Each event will offer cooking demonstrations, healthy recipes and children’s activities, along with opportunities for community members to share ideas about healthy food.

FREE VITA Tax Preparation by Appointment Only, Northwest MO (Session 8 of 18)

Description:

If you are low- to moderate-income, and would like help with filing your taxes, we will help you at no cost to you. Free tax returns can also be prepared for high school and college students; as well as individuals and families who do not own a business.
You do need to make an appointment. You can make your appointment by calling your local University of Missouri Extension Center or call the Andrew County Extension Center at 816.324.3147, Monday thru Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or you can leave a message and Kathy or Rebecca will return your call. Bring picture IDs for all adults, Social Security cards for everyone you are claiming, W-2s, 1099s, etc. It is also a good idea to bring anything you receive in the mail that indicates it is tax related and a copy of your last years’ tax return.

Advanced Stay Strong, Stay Healthy--Cole County (Session 10 of 10)

Character Critters (Session 6 of 6)

The Character Critter program provided the six pillar of character Responsibility, Caring, Respect, Fairness, Trustworthiness, and Citizenship. Each session provides 30 youth a story, games and hand on activities. Students were provided a take home sheet to learn more about their family tree, they also made greeting card to take to someone they cared about.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (Session 4 of 10)

A ten week strength training program designed for middle-aged and older adults. Participation in regular strengthening exercises will help you to build muscle and increase bone density, thereby helping to prevent frailty and osteoporosis. Strength training can benefit you in many ways, arthritis relief, improve balance, enhance flexibility, strengthen bones, weight control, lifts depression, stress reduction, reduce risks for heart disease, and maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy--Cole County (Session 10 of 10)

Description:

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy is a strength training program developed by Tufts University to help men and women increase strength, flexibility and balance. Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase middle age and older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. At each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

'Hands On' Fruit Care Workshop Series (Session 1 of 4)

Join us for 1, 2 or all 3 workshops in this series. Each is 2 or 2.5 hours long & held in central Columbia. Fruit tree pruning (don't fall out of the tree!)- Fri. March 7th- 4-6 PM. Berries and organic fruit gardening- Fri. Mar. 21st at 4-6:30 PM (it's the 2nd day of spring!). Disease and insect pest control of fruit planting- (yikes!) Fri. April 11th 4-6 PM. Additional Bonus Class! A Mid Summer Fruit Review - Friday, June 6th at 4 pm (let's eat some strawberries, yum).

Site selection, propagation material and planting preparation will be reviewed.Pruning reviewed for mature apple, cherry, peach, plum, and pear. Pruning of small peach and apricot. Pest control tactics in the dormant season will be reviewed.
