2017 Grow Your Farm (Replaces: Your Farm - Your Resources - Your Business) (Session 8 of 10)

Information on production techniques is relatively easy to find and use, but what many landowners need is help to develop the farm as a profitable business. With this in mind, Grow Your Farm is designed to assist you, the producer, in creating and planning your farm as a business. This course will help you:

  • Identify and prioritize personal and family values and use them as the foundation for the farm mission statement and goals.
  • Learn how to "walk the farm" to assess the land and its facilities.
  • Learn to evaluate the feasibility of particular farm opportunities.
  • Understand the components of a business plan and create one of your own.
  • Understand financial aspects of a business plan and review popular tools to manage financial records.
  • Consider different types of agricultural marketing and draft a marketing plan.
  • Become familiar with a variety of legal issues that pertain to farming enterprises.
  • Network with other farmers.

The Nuts and Bolts of Farm Leases, Stockton, MO

Description:

The Nuts and Bolts of Farm Leases is a program focused on specific items of a lease, Missouri's lease laws, current cash rental trends, and options available in farm rental agreements. Pasture and cropland leases will be the primary topics, but other types of leases such as livestock-share leases may be discussed. The cost of the program is $20 per person or $30 per couple sharing materials.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Advanced (Session 17 of 17)

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) is an 8-week strength-training program for older adults. SSSH is modeled after the evidenced-based StrongWomen program developed by researchers at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science at Tufts University. While the original Tufts program includes only women, University of Missouri Extension has adapted the curriculum to include men.   Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase aging adults’ access to a safe, structured and effective strength-training program. At each session a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.
