Relatives As Parents--Northland Grandfamilies (Session 16 of 23)

The Northland Grandfamilies program serves grandparents in Clay and Platte Counties who are raising their grandchildren. The program also serves aunts/uncles and other relatives who are raising children under the age of 18. The program seeks to raise awareness of the issues facing grandparents/aunts/uncles who are filling the parenting role. Advocacy, education and referral services are important aspects of the program. Support group meetings are scheduled twice a month, with guest speakers on topics of interest. The program is made possible by a partnership of the Clay County Extension Council, the Platte County Senior Fund and Clay County Senior Services.
This month's daytime group meeting will feature Shatomi Luster, Financial Education Specialist with MU Extension, who will speak on the Affordable Care Act.
Any grandparent who is raising grandchildren age 18 or younger is welcome to participate in Northland Grandfamilies. The program is also open to aunts/uncles and other adult relatives who are raising children. The program is free of charge. Responsibilities As Parents is a court-mandated program in Platte County for never-married parents and parents who are involved in paternity establishment cases.
Responsibilities As Parents (RAP) is a court-mandated program in Platte County for never-married parents and parents who are involved in paternity establishment cases.
Parents whose cases are filed in Platte County must contact the Circuit Clerk's office at 816-858-1986 for more information on how to register for the class.
Parents whose cases are filed in another county or out-of-state, but wish to take the Responsibilities As Parents class must contact the University of Missouri Extension Center at 816-407-3490 for more information on how to register.
Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) & Youth Swine Projects: What You Need to Know

4-H and FFA members with swine projects are invited to attend this informational meeting about the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV) and how it impacts them as youth swine producers. Topics will include: current status of the disease in the U.S., how it affects pigs, how it is transmitted, what it means for county weigh-days and blood/hair sampling for state/regional/national shows, biosecurity procedures for preventing the spread of the disease, and FAQs.
