Join with other journalists from across Southwest Missouri at this unique, local, high quality training opportunity. There will be something for every member of the newspaper, magazine or media outlet staff. 1St Grade Gardening Program (Session 1 of 5)

When:  Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Description:

Each year, with the help of our local Master Gardeners (Hickory County) and FFA Chapters (Wheatland, Hermitage, Mack Creek, Weableau, and Skyline), we go into the elementary schools and offer an opportunity for hands on learning as each 1st grader plants a variety of gardening seeds to be grown in the spring. The local FFA chapter care for the seeds for about 4-5 weeks and then we send them home with the students to plant in their own gardens. Hopefully they will get to eat what they have planted. We also send home information about container grown gardening in the hope the parents can put together something the students can use so they can care for the plants.
