    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 St. Francois Health Dept. (Session 4 of 16)

    Description:

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) aims to provide inactive middle-aged and older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls. SSSH helps participants meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s physical activity recommendations.

    SSSH challenges participants through incremental increases in exercise volume and intensity. Led by a certified instructor, participants complete a warmup, a prescribed set of upper- and lower-body strengthening exercises and a cool-down at each class. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 1 Sedalia (Pettis County) (Session 5 of 16)

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults access to a safe, structured, and effective strength-training program. Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each class, a prescribed set of eight upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    Women Owning Woodland-Introduction to Timber Sales

Foresters from Missouri Department of Conservation will provide information on the sale and discuss best management practices that they utilized.

    Chronic Disease Self-Management - Ralls County (Session 3 of 6)

    Description:

    Chronic Disease Self-management is a six week course.
    The teaching process makes this program effective. Classes are highly participatory. Mutual support and success builds participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
    Participants make weekly action plans, share experiences, and help each other solve problems they encounter in creating and carrying out their self-management program. Physicians and other health professionals both at Stanford and in the community have reviewed all materials in the workshop.
    Subjects covered are:
    •Techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation.
    • Appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance
    • Appropriate use of medications
    • Communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals
    • Nutrition
    • Decision making
    • How to evaluate new treatments
    The class meets once a week for two hours for a total of six weeks.

    This MU Extension strength-training program can get your fitness journey (re)started.     Description:

    Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention allows you to express both mind and body, helping you to not only learn a new skill and promote good health, it will help you achieve harmony with yourself and the world around you. Come move with us!

    This eight week program can help you build mindful practice, enhance strength and learn a SUN style of Tai Chi.
    When: Mondays and Fridays 4:35 –5:35 pm.
