Have you ever thought of incorporating a cover crop planting into your home vegetable garden management plan? Cover crops or green manures are often planted during the off season to improve the soil structure of vegetable gardens. Planting a cover crop is essential to organic vegetable gardening. This class is designed to cover the basic principles of planting cover crops in home gardens. Students will learn about the benefits of planting cover crops, how and when to plant summer and winter cover crops, what cover crops are commonly planted in Missouri, and when cover crops should be incorporated into the soil prior to planting.
