    Government contracting is not simple. There are various complex rules and registrations that must be followed in order to even submit a bid. This course will teach the basics of government contracting from the needed registrations, potential socio-economic set asides that a seller may be eligible to apply to become, how to find and prepare a response to a solicitation, and how to market your company to buyers, both the government entity and established prime contractors.

    At the end of the course the attendee will be able to:

    -Understand the basic registrations that are needed to be awarded a contract by the federal government and the State of Missouri.

    -Know the basics of reading a solicitation from the federal government.

    -Determine if their business may be eligible for any socio-economic categories.

    -If they are potentially eligible for a socio-economic category, the basics of applying.

    -How to research the various online listings for government solicitations.

    -How to market your business to the government and active prime contractors.

    Stay Strong, Stay Healthy - Level 2 (Session 15 of 16)

    Description:

    Missouri’s SSSH program is designed to increase aging adults’ access to a safe, structured and effective strength training program. Over 8 weeks, participants learn exercises to improve their strength, flexibility and balance. During each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

    SSSH is modeled after the evidenced-based StrongWomen program developed by researchers at the Friedman School of Nutrition Science at Tufts University. While the original Tufts program includes only women, University of Missouri Extension has adapted the curriculum to include men.

    Participants must register to attend event. For MU employees, 100 wellness points may be obtained per 8 week session if 14/16 classes are attended.

    Building a Business Plan

    More Grass on Fewer Acres (Session 1 of 3)

    Description:

    Pasture Improvements and/or Renovation to improve grass production on your farm.

    Forages are the backbone to the cattle industry. This program has been created to assist landowners in making sound decisions about pasture improvements while allowing for greater carrying capacities over longer periods of time. This is intended to be three two-hour programs over three nights with a variety of speakers.

    Handouts relevant to the topics will be provided. The cost will be $10.00 per night or $25.00 for all sessions. (Proceeds to be used to support travel of the speakers and handout materials.)     Warm Season Grass Cattle Grazing Workshop (Session 2 of 2)

    Description:

    Warm season grasses provide high quality summer forage for cattle grazing and allow rest time for lower quality cools season pastures,” says Patrick Davis, MU Extension Regional Livestock Field Specialist. Ideal planting time for native warm season grasses is winter and spring. Therefore, MU Extension will provide Warm Season Grass Cattle Grazing Workshops during November to educate cattle producers interested in knowledge on establishment, management and cattle grazing benefits of warm season grasses.
    Locations and times for these workshops will be:
    • November 8th, Kneeland Center, 209 A South Main, Liberal, Mo. at 1:00 p. m.
    • November 19th, Bates County NRCS/SWCD Office, 625 West Nursery Box B, Butler, Mo.at 6:00 p. m.

    An intensive, four-session, individually customized course designed to provide new and aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools and resources to create a solid business plan. These sessions are enriched with guest speakers from various disciplines including the legal profession, marketing, human resources and financing. In addition, each participant will begin by taking the GrowthWheel assessment and receive customized tools based on this assessment to assist as you build your plan.
