Stay Strong Stay Healthy is strength training for middle-aged and older adults who want to improve quality of life and stay active. Instructors have been trained by University of Missouri fitness staff to lead this program. The exercises are easy to learn, safe and effective. Still, some participants will need a doctor's approval to participate.

Participants will complete the warm-up, 8 strength-training exercises and cool down.

Family Nutrition Program-Cooking Matters (Session 3 of 6)

Cooking Matters is a cooking and nutrition education class that empowers families at risk for hunger with skills and knowledge to make healthy and affordable meals. Each week, we prepare two recipes. Participants take home non-parishible ingredients for one of the recipes in the first five classes.
Session topic:
Cooking Lean and Low-fat. Participants will discuss the benefits of choosing lean and low-fat foods. They will also learn what counts as an ounce from the protein group and a cup from the dairy group. Two recipes will be prepared in class.

Eat Well, Be Well with Diabetes (Session 3 of 4)

Eat Well Be Well with Diabetes includes four, two-hour weekly sessions that provides people with type 2 diabetes, and their family members, with knowledge and skills necessary for proper diabetes self-management. Knowledge and skills gained in the program can be applied to preventing diabetes particularly for people with pre-diabetes. The series include a strong focus on nutrition, the cornerstone of diabetes management, but also covers other self-management strategies to help individuals avoid short-term and long-term diabetes complications.
Classes will be held in the courthouse conference room on the lower level.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy is a strength training program developed by Tufts University to help men and women increase strength, flexibility and balance. Missouri’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase middle age and older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength training program. At each session, a prescribed set of 8 upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.
