Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) program is designed to increase independent living older adults’ access to a safe, structured, and effective strength-training program. Over eight weeks, participants learn exercises to improve strength, flexibility and balance. At each class, a prescribed set of eight upper and lower body strengthening exercises are done along with warm-up and cool-down stretches. Participants are made to feel comfortable regardless of their current fitness level so they can safely participate and gradually build the strength beneficial to health.

Chronic Disease Self-Management at UMC Bolivar (Session 1 of 6)

Description:

The Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) is a community-based program which assists participants in maintaining quality of life when faced with chronic medical conditions. The CDSMP is provided in 2.5 hour sessions once a week for six weeks in community settings (e.g., senior centers, churches, libraries). People with different chronic health problems attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom deal with chronic diseases themselves. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends and health professionals, 5) nutrition, and 6) how to evaluate new treatments. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives. The program was developed by Stanford University and is funded by the Arthritis Foundation.

Private Pesticide Applicator Training in Ralls County-Evening Session (Session 2 of 2)

Ag producers needing to obtain or renew their private pesticide applicator license for purchase of restricted-use pesticides can attend the Private Pesticide Applicator Training being offered in Center. This license is valid for five years and participants must be 18 or older to receive the license. Training will be given on safe and proper use of agricultural pesticides.
