Who are Master Gardeners?
Master Gardeners are adults of all ages who appreciate plants and love to watch them grow and like to share information with others.

Who can be a Master Gardener?
Any one interested in learning and sharing horticulture knowledge with their friends and neighbors.  Each person entering the program agrees to a commitment to the Master Gardener Program and volunteers at least 30 service hours in the first year to their community.

What does the training cover?
Master Gardener candidates receive at least 30 hours of basic horticulture training on a wide variety of topics taught by University of Missouri Extension Specialists and other qualified professionals.  Following completion of the training, Master Gardener interns are encouraged to join an existing Master Gardener group to participate in organized educational and volunteer efforts.

How do I Become Involved?
Local Master Gardener classes are generally offered once each year.  If you are interested in the program, contact Barton County University of Missouri Extension, Jay Chism, 801 E. 12th, Lamar, MO.  Phone (417) 682-3579 or email bartonco@missouri.edu

What type of Volunteer activities are available?
Trained Master Gardeners provide the community with current and approved horticulture practices to enhance their home gardens, lawns and landscapes.  Examples of activities may include planning community projects, giving presentations to groups, assisting with a Master Gardner hotline or conducting gardening demonstrations.
