Fabius River Master Gardeners

The Fabius River Master Gardener Group was formed in January 2002.  This group is composed of Knox, Scotland, Clark and Schuyler county residents.

Thirteen Master Gardeners from the club reported 568.75 volunteer hours for 2007. The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the value of volunteer time is $18.04. Using this figure, the Fabius Master Gardeners volunteered $10,260.25 worth of their time to projects benefiting the communities of Memphis and Edina.

Some of their projects included beautification at the Tiger Trail in Memphis, courthouse and local churches in Memphis; and the Janet O’ Rourke Memorial Garden in Rutledge and the Rutledge School. Master Gardeners also planted barrels of flowers on the square in Memphis and Edina and watered and maintained the barrels throughout the summer. Other activities include consultations, Share the Harvest, and helping senior citizens and elderly residents with their yards and gardens.

Club member, Carolyn Morgret serves as the Northeast Region State Master Gardener Advisory Board representative and served on the 2007 State Conference Steering committee and helped plan and organize the State Master Gardener Conference held in Kirksville in September 2007.

Meeting Time:  First Monday of each month at 7 p.m.

Meeting Location:  Presbyterian Church, 201 W. Madison, Memphis, MO

Training was held in Memphis (Scotland County) in the Fall of 2001 and again in the Spring of 2004.
