Magic City Master Gardeners

The Magic City Master Gardener Club was formed in 2004 and is made up of members from Randolph and Monroe counties. In 2007, sixteen Master Gardeners from the club reported a total of 1,504 volunteer hours. Of that, 1191.25 were service hours and 312.75 were continuing education. The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports the value of volunteer time is $18.04. Using this figure, the Magic City Master Gardeners volunteered $27,132.16 worth of their time to projects benefiting the Randolph County and the city of Moberly and surrounding communities.

Volunteer hours were spent working on beautification projects at Rothwell Park and other areas downtown, and at local churches; providing gardening assistance to the elderly, sick, or handicapped; gardening interviews on the radio; consulting with people and providing horticulture advice and information to the gardening public; setting up and manning a booth at the home and garden show in March; judging the horticulture show at the Randolph County fair; and teaching gardening lessons to school children and giving programs or presentations for clubs and organizations. The Magic City Master Gardeners also assisted with the 2007 State Master Gardener Conference in Kirksville in September.

Meeting Time:  Second Monday of the month at 7 p.m.
