U.S. the Largest Market for Australian Goat Meat |
| The United States has become Australia's largest market for goat meat. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service reports that in 1990, the United States imported 3 million pounds of goat meat. By 2001, that number had risen to almost 12.6 million pounds. The goat-slaughter rate at USDA-inspected facilities more than doubled, to 560,000 goats, during the same time period. The Wall Street Journal reported on June 4 that goats have become one of the fastest-growing U.S. agricultural industries. |
