4-H School Enrichment ProgramsUniversity of Missouri Extension 4-H Youth Development Programs sponsor many programs for use in the classroom. Many are at a very low cost or are free. These programs are research-based and endorsed by University professionals in their respective fields. Contact Michelle Klem for more information. Hatching Chicks in the Classroom is a very popular activity in our area schools. Educators are provided with an incubator, curricula, and pre-incubated eggs. What this means for the teacher is that the eggs arrive on a Monday and hatch the following Monday. This hands-on experience opens students up to learning about the development of life, animal husbandry, and even lessons on death and dying. Eggs must be ordered in the fall for spring delivery. 4-H S.E.R.I.E.S (Science Experiences and Resources for Informal and Recreational Educational Settings) includes a variety of hands-on activities related to science processes/concepts. SERIES focuses on environmental and societal issues important to everyone's life. SERIES is a teen-led science education program where older youth employ cross-age education to bring science to younger students in a friendly arena.
Our SERIES Team in Adair County is very active and eager to share their knowledge about science.
