Fall meeting details

It’s time to register for fall Retiree and Friends meetings. In addition to fellowship, food and a presentation, attendees will get an update on the university’s retiree health insurance study. Any insurance changes will be announced before the end of 2015 and take effect Jan. 1, 2017.

Oct. 1 — Gallatin meeting: 11:30 a.m. at Gallatin Lion’s Club Building, 801 W. Grand, Gallatin

Presentation: “South Africa Ag Safari” by Ag Business Specialist Brent Carpenter. Get ready to buckle your virtual seat belt and travel with Brent to a different world of agriculture.
Lunch: Dutch-treat buffet on-site

Oct. 7 — Nevada meeting: 11:30 a.m. at Nevada Senior Center

Presentation: “Financial Safety — Unfortunately, Retirees Are Too Often Targets” by Doug Scotten, family financial education specialist. When this was scheduled, we weren’t aware yet of retiree data breaches at the federal level (See cyber intrusion article). Doug will help you protect yourself from this and other potential security threats.
Lunch: Dutch-treat buffet on-site

Oct. 8 — Ozark meeting: 11:30 a.m. at Bric’s Family Restaurant

Presentation: “Quilts, Barns and Money” by Vivian Mason Anderson. Learn about preserving historic barns, tourism developments, textile arts and more.

Oct. 27 — Columbia meeting, opening day of MU Extension Summit (program conference): 11:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Executive Center, 2200 I-70 Drive SW, Columbia

9:30–11:30 a.m.: Flu shots will be available for retirees with Coventry insurance. Bring your insurance card.

11:30 a.m. Luncheon: Retirees are invited to attend the opening luncheon at 11:30 a.m. in the Expo Center. Chancellor Bowen Loftin and Interim Director Tom Henderson will speak before the buffet lunch. Please allow time to get your nametag at the registration table be seated by 11:30.

1–3 p.m. Retiree session:

Presentations: Greetings and comments by Interim Director Tom Henderson.

“Messages Matter” by Dennis Gagnon, director of Extension Communications and Marketing.

You will also get a benefits update coordinated by Tamra Robbins.

The room will be available for informal networking and visiting following the session.
