Garden n' Grow
Every summer University of Missouri Extension offers Garden n’ Grow, a youth gardening program for children ages 9 to 14. This is a great opportunity for local youth to grow their own vegetables and learn about horticulture. The program also encourages the discovery of science and nature through gardening. The Adair County program will start Monday, May 21 and 24 after school from 3:15-4:45. Beginning May 31, we will meet from 9:30-11:00 a.m. on Monday and Thursdays through August 13. The cost to participate in the Adair County Garden n’ Grow pro-gram is $30, which includes a lesson book, plants and seeds, refreshments, certificate and t-shirt. The deadline to register is May 18.

Garden tour June 1
On June 1 from 12:30-4:30 pm, there will be a garden tour at the farms of Duane and Janice Carney and Thomas and Chris Yunick of Unionville. These experienced gardeners have a lot to see! It’s amazing to see all the rain barrels, raised beds, fruit trees, greenhouses and garden areas these local gardeners have on their farms. You won’t want to miss this tour!
Joining 4-H is easy
4-H is a community of young people across America learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H is young people making new friends and memories while preparing to be leaders of today and tomorrow. We are a volunteer-led organization that reaches boys and girls through small groups called clubs. 4-H members choose from over 40 projects in which to participate. Most projects use hands-on learning experiences to teach subject matter and life-skills such as cooperation, leadership and decision making — skills that can be applied over and over for a lifetime. Contact Michelle Klem, 4-H youth development specialist klemmd@missouri.edu or at 660-665-9866 or learn how to join 4-H.
