35 Tips of How to Care For Yourself

  1. Set realistic goals and expectations.
  2. Establish your limits.
  3. Set priorities and pace yourself.
  4. Forgive yourself for not being perfect.
  5. Learn to "let go." Your loved one can survive a few hours without you.
  6. Involve your family from the beginning by sharing your concerns with them.
  7. Have an awareness of the losses to come.
  8. Accept and embrace what life has handed you.
  9. Maintain a playful, curious spirit.
  10. Ask for and accept help.
  11. Be kind to yourself.
  12. Think carefully before taking action.
  13. Take a walk to cool down.
  14. Express your feelings honestly.
  15. Exercise regularly.
  16. Learn to communicate differently with your loved one as cognitive and language abilities decline.
