Canning - Checking for Spoilage
Before tasting, check the food for signs of spoilage. Visually examine jars for signs of spoilage. Indications that the food has spoiled include:
All spoiled food should be destroyed so that it cannot be eaten by humans or animals.
Examine each jar carefully to ensure a vacuum seal is present. If the lids can be removed without having to pry them off with a can opener, do not use the product.
