Intergenerational Relationships Numerous studies show the benefits of intergenerational interactions not only for younger generations, but also for older adults. Older adults who are involved in intergenerational activities feel happier than other older adults. Some studies also suggested that increasing physical, cognitive, and social activity through intergenerational programs might help improve health for an aging population and improve educational learning for children. Other research findings indicate that participation in intergenerational interactions have been positive and enjoyable experiences for older adults and improved their self-image. ![]() Nursing home residents also can benefit from intergenerational experiences. For instance, several studies reveal that residents who participated in intergenerational activities reported increased social interaction and mobility, and reduced daytime sleeping and voluntary confinement. Obviously, involvement in intergenerational activities is very important for young and old, such as connection with youth, learning about technology, helping children learn, sharing caring and friendship with younger generations, etc. Not only can older adults be enriched by their involvement in the program, but also provide learning experiences for younger generations.
