Do I have to be in 4-H to participate?
No – but your story should in some way tell a story about 4-H or include 4-H in some way.
What can be
submitted?
Any original work that in some way includes 4-H – digital photography,
digital video, art work, graphic novel digital animation or mixed media
are all acceptable.
How do I
submit something?
Create your original 4-H story then upload it to our site or mail it to
us on a CD. Either way, you must complete a registration and Agreement
on the Contest Entry Form. There is no fee to enter the contest.
When are
submissions due?
Submissions must be uploaded or postmarked by any of the following
judging dates:
- October 30 2007
- January 30, 2008
- April 30, 2008
- October 30, 2008
What can I win?
We will be awarding four $100 gift certificates to Amazon (one after
each due date) to a team or individual. Submissions may also be used as
commercials, newspaper advertisements, posted on websites and placed in
other places for people to view.
Do
my parents have to be involved?
You should talk to your parents before you are on any website and
always before you upload any information to a site. We will contact your
parents/guardian after you upload your submission to ensure you have
permission to participate. We are required by the law to do this.
For more information on our required process and safeguards for you, you
or your parents can check out the
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, 2000
What
happens after I submit something?
Your submission will be reviewed to make sure it is appropriate for the
contest. We will then contact you and your parents to get permission.
After we ensure you have permission from your parent/guardian to
participate your submission will be posted on the website.
How
long before my submission appears on the website?
It may take two weeks or more to review the submission and get the
appropriate permissions.
How
will I know if I win something?
Winning submissions will be announced on the website. You will also
receive a letter of congratulations along with your gift certificate to
Amazon and/or notification that your entry is being used to promote 4-H.
How do I get help
creating a submission?
Think about people you know who might be able to help you. Perhaps
your uncle works at a TV station and knows about videography, or maybe
there is a photography club in your town. Think creatively about where
you can go for more assistance with your project.
Some ideas:
-
Photography club
-
Teacher
-
4-H volunteer or leader
-
Community college instructor
-
College student
-
Local newscaster or videographer
-
Wedding photographer/videographer
-
Local radio personality/DJ
What are some things I should avoid?
- Using logos of products, teams, etc in your production.
- Copyrighted music – you must have permission to put someone else’s music in your production. It is illegal to put music into your production that you did not create unless you have the creator’s permission. One way to avoid this altogether is to use "royalty free music". Do a search on the internet for "royalty free music" to find many sites that offer music that is not copyrighted.
- The clover must appear exactly as was intended. It must be an appropriate color, not have writing over it, etc. For complete guidelines on how to use it go to http://www.national4‑Hheadquarters.gov/emblem/4h_name.htm
